Program/Service Notes:
The California Integrated Waste Management's Recycling Market Development Zone program has been designated within specific areas of Siskiyou County; however, an expansion effort is underway to include all of the county. Zone Information The Siskiyou County Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) includes the jurisdictions of the County of Siskiyou and the incorporated cities of Yreka, Weed, Mt. Shasta, Dunsmuir, and Montague. The zone’s "top of the state" location along the Southern Pacific rail and Interstate 5 corridors provides direct transportation routes to the rest of the state, as well as Oregon, Canada, and Mexico. The Siskiyou County RMDZ includes the Shasta Valley Enterprise Zone. Program Information California Recycling Market Development Zones are designated by the Integrated Waste Management Board. The Board offers low-interest loans up to $1 million, technical assistance on financing strategies, and assistance in marketing zones nationally and internationally. For more information on this program and other market development programs, contact the Board’s Recycling Business Assistance Branch at (916) 255-1000. Target Materials Targeted materials available for manufacturing include waste wood, mixed paper, plastic, compostable wastes, glass, and drywall. Infrastructure Businesses locating in Siskiyou County will enjoy the benefits of an excellent I-5 interstate transportation network, rail service, four airports, reasonable land cost, low taxes and development fees, reduced utility costs, a large labor pool with excellent local training resources, and other well-developed infrastructure. Financing is available for industrial park improvements for tenants exceeding existing infrastructure capacity. Programs Siskiyou County has established an excellent network of organizations, programs, and projects that provide incentives to both existing and new recycling-based businesses. The organization responsible for coordinating the incentive package is the Siskiyou County Economic Development Council. Incentives include rapid permit processing, feedstock acquisition assistance, planning fee refunds, a business incubator, employee training programs, connection fee waivers, land incentives, enterprise zone incentives, hiring credits, and funding assistance
